I sat with a boss and one of his staff on Friday and I couldn’t help but pick wisdom from their conversation.
Apparently, the boss had apportioned a task to this staff and he had not accomplished it. Interestingly, the task was 2 days old.
To be fair, this staff had tried his best or what he considered his best to accomplish this said task and was articulate enough to state what he had done so far. As though waiting for some praises and kudos, he stood still after the many tenable explanation.
Then like King Solomon, the big boss drops a wise word. “You don’t get credit for effort, you only get credit for result”.
Eureka moment init? The young man left us and went about his business.
Like this young man, many of us want applauds before it’s due. We want praises for effort. While is it important to appreciate, respect and treasure our journey in life and business, we must also learn to wait till it’s really time to celebrate cause really no one will praise you until they see result.
Those who are not cheering you now aren’t doing so because they haven’t seen results yet. You want the cheers? Go get results.
Orange is sweet but not until it’s ripe.
Peace, Love and Cold Zobo.
