LESSONS FROM A LAGOS BUS CONDUCTOR!

Errm! You see this personal brand thing isn’t as hard as it seem.
.
Did I say Good morning? Sorry, my bad. Good morning and trust your weekend was great.
.
Back to my personal branding gist. I entered this particular public bus in Lagos last week. And the conductor displayed personal branding to my shock.
.
Not to demean his person, but if a Lagos conductor can create a known personal brand, you should be able to.
.
As I make to enter the bus, the conductor said “where are you go?” I had believed it was the regular _gbagaun_ we hear all the time. I mean who was expecting Queens English anyway? He continued using that line whenever the bus was to pick another passenger and he would occasionally throw in some even bad ones when a passenger request to alight or ask for change. His was worse than Jenifa…he could easily cause a quake with it.
.
It continued till one of the passengers couldn’t control his laughter and said in pidgin “English, you don start again today”. Another passenger said “You just dey know English?”. Then it occurred to me this conductor had a personal brand.
.
Apparently, he had earned himself the nickname; English cause of his bad diction. It had become his identity. In fact before the end of the journey, another person flagged the bus down and hailed him “English, how far?”. He was known for something, he successfully created an image and expression of himself in the mind of others. Whether he did that consciously is a different question. That’s where personal branding starts from.
.
As you start your week, what image or impression are you consciously creating in the minds of others? Think about it and how that could help your business. Think about the many ways personal branding can influence your business and create for you an expert status. Think about the influence that comes with it.
.
It’s not rocket science, start from consciously creating an image in the minds of others.
.
Peace.
