BREAKING THE PARKINSON’S LAW WILL IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE.

I recently changed my phone and all of a sudden the memory space I’m using up is jumping the roof.

My ex phone came with 32gig of storage which was fine. I never used up that space although I had an external memory card with 16gig which I really never use.

Fast forward to a week ago, I got another phone with 128gig of storage, and it feels like I’ll use up that space in another 2weeks. As I type this, I’ve used up 55.48gig of storage-aside the external space, more than the entire gig available on my ex phone and memory card.

I’m not here to bore you with my gist of a new phone…nah! If you think that’s the point here, you can stop reading already but if not, follow me to the next paragraph.

I casually mentioned my memory space ‘ish’ to a client of mine and he was quick to remind me of the Parkinson’s Law. Eureka! That was the problem.

The Parkinson’s Law in simple term means that if you give yourself a week to complete a task, even if the task was a simple task to begin with, it will increase in complexity so that you’ll end up having to use the entire week in order to complete it.

This law doesn’t apply to time management alone, same with money-your expenditure increases to meet income. With space; your belongings expand to fill the space available. With food; your appetite increases with the amount of food in your plate etc.

In my case, my need for space increased with the amount of space available and quite exponentially I should add. You see, the Parkinson’s Law is probably the reason why you never have enough money because with every increase in income, your expenditure rises and you can’t resist the urge.

Obesity in America has been linked to the Parkinson’s Law severally. Infact, the state of New York had banned restaurants and movie theaters alike from selling sugary soda in large containers. Have you ever moved into a spacious apartment and 2months down the line, the space had disappeared into thin air? Yeah…Parkinson’s Law, you filled that space yourself with furnitures you necessarily didn’t need.

Parkinson’s Law is real and without caution, it can mess you up. It will mess up finance, health and more…What should you do? Set limits.

Set limits on your finances even when your income grows, set time limit for every task, set limit for food (you can start with using smaller bowls/plate to eat), set limit with space…Just set limit and adhere strictly to your limits.

Have you been guilty of the Parkinson’s Law like myself? Please share and let’s all learn, I’ll be checking the comments.
